Answer

First, find the Kanopy film you'd like to use.  Click Share to copy the permalink or embed code to paste into Canvas.

Next, open an assignment or start a new assignment in Canvas.

To link to a Kanopy film:

  1. In the Rich Content Editor, highlight the text you wish to link.
  2. Click the link icon in the toolbar. A popup window will appear.
  3. Paste the permalink that you copied in your Kanopy film.
  4. Click Insert Link.

Your text is now linked to the film. When students click the link they will be directed to log into Kanopy or create an account before they can access the film.

In your Kanopy assignment, click the insert link icon, and paste the permalink into the popup window.

To embed a Kanopy film widget:

Kanopy films can not be embedded so that students can view the film within the Canvas course shell. However, you can embed a widget that will direct students to a Kanopy film.

Here's how:

  1. In the toolbar of the Rich Content Editor, click the icon to insert/edit media.
  2. A popup window will appear. Click the Embed tab in the popup window.
  3. Paste the embed code that you grabbed in your Kanopy film.
  4. Click OK.
  5. A widget showing the background and title for the film will appear, and when students click it, they will be taken to Kanopy, where they will be directed to log in or create an account before viewing the film.

Click the edit/insert media icon in the toolbar, then paste the embed code into the Embed tab of the popup window.
