How do Information Literacy Tutorial badges work for faculty? Last Updated: Jul 17, 2023 Views: 77
Answer
Since May 2022, Library Services has made four of its key Information Literacy tutorials available in Canvas. These are:
- Research Fundamentals
- Literature Research
- Copyright and Intellectual Property
- Plagiarism
Each tutorial can be assigned to your students using unique Canvas links.
These tutorials introduce students to the major information literacy concepts, including planning a research project, navigating the search process and library databases, evaluating and citing sources, copyright, and plagiarism.
Tutorials now come with badges
Beginning this Friday, December 16th, 2022, students who pass the quizzes for the above tutorials in Canvas will be awarded Badges.
Once they pass with a 70% or higher, students can access their badge in Canvas and share it with their instructors for credit. Badges can be submitted in the form of a unique link to a Badgr page verifying the students’ badge. Students can also generate a paper or a PDF certificate that they can upload in your Canvas classroom.
If you assign a tutorial, you will no longer receive student data reports from me. Instead, your students will be responsible for submitting their badges in your course. Instructions for students on accessing and submitting their badges are on our FAQ page.
FAQ: How will I know when my students have passed a library tutorial quiz?
Student access to badges
Badges are available in Canvas through the Badgr API. Students do not need to leave Canvas or create a Badgr account to access and submit their badges. However, their badges may be useful after they leave DCCC. To access their badges after they leave the College, students will need to have started a Badgr backpack.
A badge and certificate verifies that the student passed the quiz; it does not display a grade. For specific grades or other student data questions, please contact the library.
